En nerv som utgår från ryggmärgen i höjd med ländryggen och korsbenet (L4 till S3) och leder nervimpulser till de nedre extremiteterna. Ischiasnerven (höftnerven), som är huvudutlöparen från korsbensplexus, är den största nerven i kroppen. Den har två stora grenar, skenbensnerven och vadnerven.
