Selektiv nedslipning av tändernas bettytor i syfte att förhindra för tidig kontakt och bettstörningar, för bästa tänkbara tuggeffekt, stabila bettförhållanden, inriktning av den största bettkraften och spridning av bettkraftsmönstret, för förbättrad funktionalitet och för fysiologisk stimulering av tuggsystemet, för att förhindra bettskador och onormal muskelspänning, som hjälp för stabilisering av ortodontiska åtgärder, för behandling av parodontala problem och käkledsproblem, samt som ett led i lagning.
