Huskatten Felis catus, tillhörande rovdjursfamiljen Felidae, med mer än 30 stammar. Huskatten härstammar i första hand från vildkatten i Afrika och Sydvästasien. Katter anses ha funnits i palestinska samhällen så tidigt som för 7 000 år sedan, men det var i Egypten för ca 4 000 år sedan som tamkatten blev en mer allmän företeelse.
The domestic cat, Felis catus, of the carnivore family FELIDAE, comprising over 30 different breeds. The domestic cat is descended primarily from the wild cat of Africa and extreme southwestern Asia.
